Our Past
The family is a mix of the Sharmas and the Mathurs from Kamal & Nupur's sides respectively.
Why Krishna?
Well, Krishna was the first name of Kamal's father - Dr. Krishna Swaroop Sharma, a renowned physician of his time. He had decided to give his first name as a family name to his sons Kalyan & Kamal. That really made them what they are today when they wear his name with pride and reverance.
Dr. Sharma was the son of a rural landlord, Mr. Ram Swaroop Sharma. Dr. Sharma drew his medical aspirations as well as inspiration from his uncle who served as a doctor in the Indian Army. Amazed at his skills at curing diseases, he decided to take on medicine and moved to Calcutta (now Kolkata) to pursue his MBBS. After successfully completing the same, he picked up an MD from Australia, and served the Indian Health Services for close to 40 years before retiring as the Director of Health Services.
Nupur's family is made of educationists. Her father Dr. Y D Mathur grew up in the heart of Delhi and later taught in India and Basra, Iraq. Her mother Neelima Mathur also taught for close to 30 years before retiring. Both ensured that their daughters Nupur and Gunjan got the best of education and a love for books along with a sense of curiosity and wonder.
